At Cemetery.us.org, we keep track of cemetery-related news. And, let me tell you – it’s hard to find stories about cemeteries that are upbeat and positive. But we at Cemetery.us.org managed to do just that today, when we found out what’s going on this week at the Congressional Cemetery. It’s so cool that we decided to pass it on to our Cemetery.us.org readers.
The Congressional Cemetery is where Vice Presidents and other honored dignitaries, including J. Edgar Hoover, are buried. In the past few years, however, they have had trouble maintaining the grounds.
It turns out that because the cemetery is right next to a river, they can’t use traditional herbicides to get rid of kudzu and other weeds that were threatening to unearth the gravestones.
So, they came up with a novel and green solution: They have brought in a herd of goats, who will eat all the pesky weeds. The goats are moved to a different part of the cemetery every day – and tourists are allowed to come and take pictures. It should take roughly a week for them to clear out all the plants so that the cemetery will be protected again.
This is the kind of thinking outside the box that we love at Cemetery.us.org. Who knows – maybe other cemeteries could use the goats to cut down on dangerous chemicals as well!
Either way, this is super cool and allows us to say we’ve got your goat!
